Learnerships and occupational qualifications

Registered qualifications for your cleaning teams, supervisors and office staff, run as learnerships on-site at your workplace.

QCTO occupational qualifications combine knowledge modules, practical skills modules and workplace experience, and end with an external integrated summative assessment. We run them as learnerships for your employed staff or for new recruits, at your premises or at our Gauteng venue.

Looking for a learnership as a learner?

We enrol learners only through companies, so we can’t accept applications from individuals. If you’re employed, ask your HR or training department about learnerships with FT Skills.

Questions companies ask

What is a learnership?

A learnership is a structured programme that combines classroom learning with practical work experience and leads to a registered qualification. It is governed by a learnership agreement between the employer, the learner and the training provider, and registered with the SETA.

Can you train our staff at our premises?

Yes. On-site training at your workplace is how we prefer to work, because it is the most cost-effective way to train a team. We train anywhere in South Africa, and we also have a training venue in Gauteng.

Can existing employees do a learnership?

Yes. Learnerships can be for your current employees (often called 18.1 learners) or for unemployed people you take on for the programme (18.2 learners). Both can qualify for the Section 12H tax allowance.

What is the difference between a legacy qualification and a QCTO occupational certificate?

Occupational certificates are the newer qualifications registered under the QCTO. They combine knowledge, practical skills and workplace modules and end with an external integrated summative assessment. Legacy qualifications, like the FETC: Generic Management, were registered before the QCTO system and are being phased out, with fixed last dates for enrolment and achievement.
